Is Our Hospitals in the FSM safe?

I don't mean any disrespect to the doctors and/or nurses, but I've heard of numerous cases where most of you aren't
giving patients the right prescriptions/medications/treatments..which often results to a fatal endings.. And what can be done,
or what is our Government doing to prevent these casualties?

  • I heard that Chuuk hospital gave away close to million of dollars to the medical supplier and never received any medical supplies or medicine yet. When you check in at the Chuuk hospital for treatment then a Filipino lady doctor prescribe noting, but infection medicine. Without hesitation she always said,"PAIKING!".

  • A Concern Cit,

This one of the major problem that has never been solved by any higher up whether it be the old administration or the current one. They need to do something because it has become an embarrassment for all Chuukese abroad and here on the islands.
  • RMI has the samd problem but this time its with doctors who got their doctoral degrees out of a cereal box, especially the doctors from Philippines and India who seem as though they know what they are doing but sad thing about it is that this so called doctors are punch of idiots who don't know the difference between their ass and their head.

The truth of the matter is that there is never enough. We do have doctors at our hospital in Chuuk, however, not all of them are MD's. I only know of one Filipino male Medical Doctor who appears to know what he does, he's done a great deal of work on a great number of Chuukese. He is a surgeon by profession and has assisted in other areas and has proven himself worthy of the acronymn next to his name.

The others are locals with lesser medical educational background (MO's). However, the amount of work and diagnostics are equal to, if not more than, the expats (Filipinos), in general. We, the Chuukese people, should be grateful to the local doctors who have given their best to protect and treat us. To mention only some, they are:

    Dr. Felix Yomai
    Dr. Dorina Reselap
    Dr. Beth Sappa
    Dr. Siena Sapusy
    Dr. Henry Nowell
    Dr. (Something) Nowell
    Dr. Maria Akapito Yomai
    Dr. Rita Akapito Mori
    Dr. Yoster
    Dr. Kennendy Remit
    Dr. Lima Setik

AI WACHEMWUKEN KINISOU NGENI KEMI! AMO SAMACH KOT WON NAANG EPWE SOPWENO AN EMWEN NGENI KEMI FAN ITEN NOUMI ARAMAS.

We should also remember those who have passed, but their work still remains in our hearts. We will always be grateful to them. Nge upwe tirow womi aramasen ekkei mei auchean mwan, ekkewe kich mei owe-nir manawach ren ar aninnis mei unusen watte. Omusano tipisin ach sipwe paapa sotupw, nge seni ach nichippungasiniir. Ese mwuch ai kinisou ngeniir pwun ngang emon mei kuna ai manaw me pochokkun seni ar angang mei eoch. Ach tong me pwos ennet :

    1. Dr. Michi Kolios
    2. Dr. Arunaga Sonis
    3. Dr. Kyosi Aniol
    4. Dr. Ngas Kansou
    5. Dr. Moses
    6. Dr. Henry Lucio
    7. Dr. Gerhart Aten
    8. Dr. Herlip Nowell
    9. Dr. Sablon Remit

The problem, though, is with the limited amount of medical supplies and equipment necessary to carry out their duties. The hosptial lack proper management as evident by the lapsed funding on a regular basis. Significant amount of money have been wasted due to the managerial skill that the hospital administration has. Recently, large amount of health funds have been expended and intended medical supplies have not been received, and is not expected to be received, all becuase of either corruption or incompetence.

This is why on many instances, the hospital is not capable of handling the number of patients the doctors see on a daily basis. Thus, more come short of receiving the proper treatment.

    Sad, yeah?

So do I trust our hospital? NO. Do I trust the doctors? YES.

Therefore, change the admin. Today is that time to change.

GO TO THE POLLS AND VOTE  ---- ALEXANDER SANDER NARRUHN
  • Sinbad,

listening to the debate took place in Guam. All did well, but there are things I think they could do a lot more to make them looks more presentable. Only Narrhun stand out because he dressed well and ready for it. The rest, usun nge rese fen pwan i care. People should always r3m3ner that what you wear do say a lot about you! if you dress down then that is the kind of person you are. Truly, Alex seem to be the only one that care about how he present himself. the rest they appeared as if they just don't care. They could at least look more presentable. They don't realized that they are all over the world. My vote is for Alex!
  • I was not there, but that was what the consenus of the audience appeared to be and it became the talk of the household afterward. If you truly believe so, please go to the polls and share your understanding and believe. It is important that we all do that for Chuuk sake.

KINISOU, ennetin kinisou ren met ka weweiti me kuna pwun ngang mei ennetin Nukuw nge Alex epwe tongeni anisi kich. Alex esap pwan nifinifin nenian an anganga met sipwe pwak ren.

Truthfully, I never thought I'd like the guy, but seen him talking and point out things in a more elaborate and meaningful way make me to think twice of him...He would be the kind of guy I'd be willing to work for. God bless, and happy belated Easter.
  • HAPPY EASTER, KITA!

I'VE KNOWN ALEX WELL ENOUGH TO JUDGE HIS ABILITY AND PASSION FOR DEDICATION. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SEEING HIM THE WAY YOU DO NOW, RATHER THAN HOW YOU SEE HIM BEFORE - YOUR SECOND THOUGHT IS A WISE CHANGE OF MIND.
  • Ewer, Pwal ina chok

ARe U saying that these people Dr's are equivalent to what they call PA? except PA do not prescribe medication yet can see patients. Yeah??
  • Kita,

I don't know what a PA is, but our MO's are Medical Officers who can see patients and prescribe medications. Each of the local doctors are capable of performing general practice, and each of them has their own specialty.

  • PA= Physician Assistant. They are more like docs but can't prescribe medication. They need more training to prescribe medication. If I am not mistaken, a PA can only have a master degree in PA...no residence doing and other year of training a MD must go through. On top of that, both PA and MD must pass the exam to be certified as an MD or PA. Both ppl wear white ropes.

More like a lawyer and a Paralegal. A paralegal is an attorney right hand...the lawyer give order to the paralegal while the lawyer go fight in court.
  • The problem across the Federation is not trained specialists alone...money remains the major driving force to better any infrastructure and operation of such a public service facility.
  • it doesn't matter if we have good doctors but when it comes to what they prescription  all expired..... that's means the administration needed to be change.
  • Money is appropriated, distributed for lack of a better term, from the Congress then trickle down to the states. If the National drivers, (Legislative and Executive) deemed they had done great, (healthcare speaking) then targeting our blame on our leaders ought to be heard by constituents. But if there is not enough money to increase this distribution, based on assessments and reasoning feeding up the National ladder from the states (to improve current conditions) then it is more complicated than anticipated.

Healthcare is one of the pressing issues in the world today. US employees are faced with a whopping price for such services, all because of the cost of malpractice lawsuits that drive the cost of care to the sky. Additionally, research and development did likewise on the price of prescription drugs. When all is said and done, to get a quality healthcare, the face value of the dollar must be presented to the seller before shipment can be processed.
  • Another name for Yap memorial hospital is called "Yap Murder Hospital" for a reason.  [-O<
  • And why I don't see Dr. Kolid Keybond? Is he out already?
  • edited April 2013
    Excuses,

Thank you very much for that. Dr. Kolid Keybond is one of the physicians at the hospital, still there alive and kicking.

The others are locals with lesser medical educational background (MO's). However, the amount of work and diagnostics are equal to, if not more than, the expats (Filipinos), in general. MY BAD.
  • The FSM should be aware of this so called doctors and yes from the Philippines and India. They think they're smarter and better than us. Some or maybe MOST of them have bought their degree's...note NOT earned but bought, there are places in the Philippines and India that ppl can pay to have a fake degree processed and will look like a qualified piece of document. So thinking that we the people of Micronesia from tiny islands, not only live in tiny island but have tiny brains according to them and so they came with their bullshit and in return we pay for the consequences. Our government should monitor these bastards very carefull, before bringing or hiring them they should examine and or test if they have what it takes to be a real doctor and that they know what they are doing. Instead our goverment just look at their paper and that they are from the Philippines or India then immediately they are hired.  FYI there are rumors I've heard and incidents that had happened at the Genesis hospital, majority of the doctors there are Filipinos. There were patients who were brought there and died. One poor girl was send there, her condition wasn't fatal but she was given a pill to make her sleep, guess what she NEVER woke up it was just like she was send there to die. Plus I have an grand uncle who went there and the nurses there couldn't get the needle into his vein, they poked almost everypart of his hand. The family took him over to the Local hospital the local nurses only one time got the needle into my grand uncles vain and had the ordeal over. It took 6 or 7 times for those so called nurses to get the needle into my grand uncles arm, and they didnt get the job done and were still insisting that his veins are not thick enough for the needle to inject....BS!!!  This is a very good topic for awareness and the reality of it. Not to mention not so long ago there was this Filipino man who came with a master degree in Engineering and he was hired to aid the airport build up...guess what he didn't know anything, he was just guessing and acting smart till he was fired and kicked out.. We really need to examine people coming to work at our islands, our hospitals or anywhere who knows what they are capable...samething goes to those locals if they are not abiding by the standards or are not qualified..
  • Folks Hospitals are Complex organizations and the services they provide must first be understood by the consumers. Yes, for the most part the Doctors are the Bosses of treatment, whether acute or chronic. One physicians fault shouldn't be used to against all the institution. What is important is the management must deal with such scenarios on individuals basis and get rid of the bad apples before they began to contaminate others. Yes, most of the doctors we have in Micronesia came from the Philippines and some of them may still be wet behind their ears if you know what I mean. However, the management must be proactive and deal with such individuals right away straighten them out or ship them out. One of the reasons most of the physicians comes from the Philippines is the fact that we can only afford them. They are ones willling to accept the level of salaries we pay them. This should answer why most of them are not good. The good ones would never accept our low salaries. As I have indicated, the Hospital is a Complex institutions, which houses, Doctors whom we generally understand that run the show however, they would not be able to do thei job well if the Laboratory staffs are not appropriately trained, if their lab equipments are down mechanically or without reagents. Without the Lab's support, the Doctors would not be able to pin point accurately the organizms they are treating and takes a long time to arrive at the right medicine for the right organism. Same with X-Ray department, the Kitcehn, and environment, the Medical Supplies, and Pharmaceuticals. And above all appropriate funding. With these elements, there is no way our Doctors cand be able to carry out their duties as expected. I do not know about the other hospitals within the FSM as for the Pohnpei Hospital it is ranked as a 90 beds size hospital. And a Hospital of this sized anywhere in the USA and bench marking with Guam and Hawaii our closest US places, it would need at least 35 million dollars annually. Gues how much funding Pohnpei Hospital gets annually? about 6 million. So you see that' why our hospital is not stisfactorily rendering the expect services to our population. 6 million compounded with poor management, what can we expect? Wallang!

  • Miss management is all you need to say. The person who oversee the operation of the Hospital is at fault due to lack of knowledge and he may have not have the sufficient skill in health care to run such institution.

Docs can only be blamed for their work done on a patient. When such thing happen you sue the doc for malpractice which is a civil action, not criminal. In civil case you sue for monetary not for the soap on the floor.

Ennetin? Iwe amo governor epwe ekieki, ussun met men aporousa non an campaign.

I hope Governor Elimo places the health director somewhere else if he still wants him on his staff, but NOT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT again.
  • The trend continues....we begin to see throngs of people seeking benefits such as health care abroad...had we chose common wealth, we may have something closer to facilities and management we seem to be talking about
  • A fokkun sonap mefiemi kenan chokana. Sonap kunaiemi ese pwetta.

    Kinisou.
  • yes, sinbad, your right, governor should reorganized his head dept. and change the health director and put someone knows better than this guy.

    God bless chuuk.
  • Hospital is safe ~ considering her limitations with supplies and personnel.  One very important matter that chuuk must address is the LACK of accountability.  How in the world did xXx amount of $$$ be wasted without cause/products and/or services?  How in the world would that ever be possible.  Who is investigating it and how far have they gone with this mess!!  I hate to say it, but sounds like a real set up (Philippines and Chuuk)..

I like to ask the continuing admin. to please place focus and priority on both health and public safety.  Someone mentioned that Mr. Elimo never mentioned that in his speech about public safety, but  I did hear that it is one of his top priorities this year.  So let's be a bit patient and see what he got cooking ~ are met?

Time to change up the admin. in each respective offices if they are not doing any improvement... just a kind thought for professional reasons ~ nothing personal. I do not even know these people heading them offices...

Congratulations to the Top Bosses in Chuuk government.  Si Chusssssssssssss ^5 PEACE

Etini - To slide/keep something above
    Fetun - Paddle

Etini Fetun literally means when you slide or keep you paddle under the thatch-roofed boat house. We do this during bad weather season.

It means putting your paddles away.

Why  sounds like you hate Filipinos ?
It's so easy - ask for the  school transcript of records where he/she graduated ( the address and phone /email addresses are all indicated there ) -  for DR's / CPA's / NURSES  aside from the  school transcript of  records check with PRC-Phil Regulating Commission number /certification -you can check the authenticity ... Aside from company's where they were employed before ..Don't
speculate , yes not only in the Phil where you can fake your diploma
-anywhere -everywhere anybody can do that with the technology we have
    now ...
