Scuba Diving Hall of Fame-Chuukeseman
  • The late master diver Kimiuo Aisek, founder of the Blue Lagoon Dive Shop in Chuuk, was inducted into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame Jan. 26 on Grand Cayman Island.

Aisek helped make Truk Lagoon in Chuuk State one of the most popular wreck dives in the world. He died in 2001 of a heart attack.

Accepting the award on his behalf in Grand Cayman were two generations of Aiseks: Kimiuo's son, Gradvin, and grandson, Iadvin.

In 1998, Kimiuo Aisek had purchased the Truk Continental Hotel from Continental Airlines, and converted it to the Truk Blue Lagoon Resort.

On Nov. 13, 2008, Blue Lagoon Dive Shop celebrated its 35th anniversary. It is run entirely by the Aisek family of Kuchua village, Tonoas Island (formerly Dublon).

Born on Sept. 13, 1927, Kimiuo Aisek was reared during the Japanese era in Truk. Working for the Japanese Navy as a stevedore, he became familiar with the cargo ships used by the Imperial Navy's Fourth Fleet based in Truk.

    Operation Hailstone
At age 17, he witnessed Operation Hailstone, the American air attack on Truk on Feb. 17 and 18, 1944. He watched the Japanese ships sink during the attack, including the Aikoku Maru, which disappeared in a violent explosion in just one minute.

In 1949 Kimiuo Aisek was hired by the Department of Public Works in the U.S. administration of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. He earned 9 cents an hour. He later became an officer in the Merchant Marine.

Fishing was always his first love, and he did it in Hawaii for seven years as well as many years in Truk.

thank you, uncle Kim, for the great and most making money contribution you have put in place and left us with especially the chuuk tourism industry. Now it will be up to us to market your contribution to the world of tourism...

To you and those who came before us and contributed greatly to our island, "Thank you and Rest in peace".
  • you'd be respected more if you keep a low profile!
  • BS erol!!!!!!!!
  • We're ever so proud of the late Aisek for his contribution to Chuukese society. Let the legacy lives on! Do more scuba diving in Chuuk lagoon.
  • erol you keep yourself low like you never even exist!
  • no wonder why chuuk is so dumb..lol
  • He was a good diver...i heard one time..he only had 1 hr of air left in his tanks..but still was able to use up only 60 minutes.
  • I am no Chuukese, but i agree with all the people who honor their late parents, families, friend, or even country men and women who served or contributed to their home-island/ country for the sake of posterity or the next generation to come.. Atewereis-i've been to Chuuk for four years and i've been to continental sooo many times, and i know the Aisek family well. They are kind people and i do salute Mr. Aisek who had made alot of people realize that Chuuk "indeed" has the BIGGEST underwater MUSEUM in the world. I've dove Fujikawa Maru and several other tankers that sunk off in Piis and so on.. I dove few other zeros and a mert...and also did some sketches on the 'zero' fighters that were shot down during the Hail Storm. Ateweires- thank you for recognizing this man... not only he is Chuukese but he is a pioneer. "Do not listen to other pessemistic such as "EROL"......

My honor and salutation to all pioneers that make our country...a COUNTRY..
  • I second that Zailuke. Hey, Zailuke are you from Pohnpei? i heard that you are a diver during your year at xhs.....
  • Not a Chuukese as well, but I do recognize the value of contributions made by certain individuals to our nation. Mr Aisek was indeed a great man to be honored and respected for his great contributions. The impact of his contributions does not only affect his beloved Chuuk State, but the entire Micronesia as a divers' heaven on Earth - not mentioning the true economic impacts felt across the islands. He's truly one of the few contemporary Micronesian pioneers deserving our respect and the Hall of Fame award. May he rest in peace knowing his great contributions are felt and appreciated across all Micronesia. God bless his soul.........
  • Erol,

Your comments are insulting and disrespecful. But i guess you must be one of no character, lost in debt of ignorance and defecatingly low self-esteem. And yes I am a Chuukese and I do take offense to your off the wall ignorant comments!!!
